Cooler Concepts Best Beers of Summer

Beating the heat of summer is always a little easier with a beer in your hand. With so many styles of beer available, it’s important to find ones that will keep you cool during sweltering temperatures. So here’s our list of the best beers for summer.

Wheat

Brewed with a large portion of wheat in comparison to other ingredients, wheat beers come in different varieties including hefeweizen and the Dutch style witbier, which includes flavors like coriander in the process. Served unfiltered, the beer will have a cloudy appearance when poured but is light in taste and body.

American-style Lager

A pale style of beer, the American-style lager is crisp, clean and highly carbonated. Using little hops or malt, the color goes from straw to gold. Introduced to the United State by German immigrants in the 19th century, its flavor will be very familiar to those who drink beers from the largest American and Canadian breweries.

Sour

The oldest style of beer there is, sour beer has made a recent comeback and can be found in many craft breweries. Creating its taste with bacteria and yeast, all beers had some sour element before pasteurization was discovered. Popular with some people who don’t like traditional beer, sours are light and may be infused with fruits to enhance them even more.

Pilsner

With a straw to pale color, pilsners originated in the Czech Republic in the 1800s and have been popular ever since. The lighter body of this style of beer makes it a great summer choice. The sweet malty flavor and aroma of the beer, along with its color, make it very distinctive. However, all pilsners aren't built the same so be sure to try the American and German versions as well.

Saison

Also referred to as farmhouse style, saisons were originally created in Belgium as a summer beer. With a color that ranges from gold to light amber, it was created to refresh the thirst of the farmers working in the fields during the summer months. Its fruity and slightly spicy flavor, combined with a light malt finish, help distinguish this summer favorite.
